Obituary
Sadly, Kerttu, Kaarina Ruohi passed away peacefully after an overnight stay at Huntsville Hospital and Algonquin Grace Residential Hospice, Huntsville on the morning of June 19th, 2021, aged 95 years young. Friend and acquaintance to many in the South River/Sundridge area and Honorary Aunt to the Lahtinen, Wolstenholme, Myrsky and Ojala families. She came from Finland for a visit in 1961 and in 1963 came to care for her uncle Waino Maki in his logging business as his accountant and helped with his legal affairs. She never left, adopting South River as her new home. Within the community she was well known as a seamstress for her wedding and attendant creations, prom dresses and alterations. She also learned upholstery as well as teaching it at the local highschool. She took care of her friend’s children and pets when asked. She regularly supplied sandwiches for the South River Seniors Club and was known for her Finnish Pulla which she donated to her many friends and to local church bazaars. As per her wishes, there will be no service. She has been cremated and if desired, donations could be made to Algonquin Grace Residential Hospice, Huntsville or South River Friendly Circle Seniors Club.
