MacLean, Katherine Isabel
« Kay », age 79 of James River, Antigonish Co.,
passed away in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital on December
20, 2021 with her husband of 54 years, Doug, by her
side.
Born in Morar, Antigonish Co., she was a daughter of the late
John Joseph and Mary Ann (Smith) MacDonald.
In her early years, Kay worked at the Antigonish 5c to $1
where she made lifelong friendships. She stayed at home to
raise her family and then returned to work at Highland Basics where
she again formed many friendships with colleagues and
customers. Kay was a 36 year member of the Antigonish Co.
Ladies Auxiliary Volunteer Fire Dept. She was a very warm and generous
person, an ultimate caregiver, a woman of strong faith, and a Mom and
Nana to many. She loved to cook, have a good cup of tea, and
« fuss » over her Grandsons. Kay had a green thumb
and grew beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and had a fondness for
butterflies.
We feel so fortunate to have had her as our Mother, and
pleased that her wishes were fulfilled to remain at home with Doug in
spite of her illness.
She is survived by her Husband, Doug; Daughters: Carol Ann
(Kenneth) Chisholm, James River; Debbie MacLean (Takeo Kawamura),
Maine; Grandsons: Evan Chisholm and Ryan MacLean; Brother, Mike
(Helen) MacDonald and Sister, Sally (Tom) Massel, both of Ontario;
Brothers-in-Law, Henry (Georgina) MacLean; Barry MacLean, both of New
Glasgow; Sisters-in Law, Cathy MacDonald, Antigonish; Mildred Dewar,
Marshy Hope; Ruth (Aidan) Kingsbury, Stellarton and many Nieces,
Nephews, and dear Friends.
She was predeceased by her Son, Iain, Brothers: Jack, Steve,
Donald, Donald (Infancy), Blaise, Lauchie, Billy and Jimmy; Sisters:
Anna, Florence and Frances and special Niece Brenda.
A private visitation will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home,
135 College Street, Antigonish. A private funeral service
will be held on Friday. A link to the funeral service will be provided
on C.L. Curry website at 11:00 am. Burial in Glen
Bard Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory may be
made to the Kidney Foundation.
