Karen Davie Wednesday October 13th 2021 avis de deces

It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Marie Davie announces her passing on Wednesday October 13, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
On Monday, August 3rd, 1942, the 31st anniversary of the birth of her mother, Karen Davie (nee Lyon) was born in Toronto. Karen was the first born child of Marie Lyon (nee Draper), a former high school music teacher born in Mt. Albert and Marshall Lyon, a businessman and part-time musician, born in Schomberg but raised in Newmarket. Karen was a sensitive child who adored her parents and siblings, Marsha born 1945 and Laurie born 1948.
Karen’s first marriage produced two sons, Shane born 1965 and Scott born 1968. On November 5th, 2005, Karen married Garry Davie, a local businessman in Courtice, Ontario, where they took up residence. Garry’s children Kim and Chris became a welcome addition to Karen’s life and she was a proud and loving Grandmother to Jennifer and Christopher (Shane), Rhys and Bryn (Scott), Jordan, Taylor and MacKenzie (Kim) and Jessica and Jacob (Chris).
Karen worked for many years as a licensed hairdresser and later in life became a teacher’s aid at a Scarborough Elementary School. She was a gifted artist who painted throughout her life and she loved gospel music and often sang in choirs led by her mother.
Karen held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. She loved serving the Lord and could be found ministering to the homeless on the downtown streets of Toronto, volunteering at the ‘Eating Well’ food bank in Oshawa and serving on various church boards over the years. She generously cared for and supported those in need.
In February 2020, Karen was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The disease was treatable but not curable. Aided in no small measure by her Christian faith, her tireless husband Garry, family and friends, she fought her illness with an inspirational grace and dignity and finally passed peacefully at Oshawa Lakeridge Hospital in the early morning hours of Wednesday October 13, 2021. However, Karen would want all who read this to know that she has gone home to be with her Lord and Saviour (John 11:25).
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to all those who generously helped care and prayed for Karen throughout her illness but especially in the final months.
A celebration of Karen’s life will take place at Evangel Pentecostal Church in Oshawa (374 Farewell Street) on Saturday November 27, 2021. There will be a service at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow at the church.
Due to current COVID restrictions, masks must be worn inside the church and attendance is restricted to 125 attendees due to the requirement for physical distancing. Attendees are required to contact the church at 905-725-6568 prior to November 24th to register so that they can manage the number of occupants. Please indicate you are calling about the Karen Davie Celebration of Life service on November 27th and leave your name, phone number and number of guests.
Please note that due to family health issues we ask that you refrain from wearing any perfumes or fragrances and do not bring any cell phones or wifi devices into the church.
If desired, in lieu of flowers a memorial donation made to the Evangel Pentecostal Church or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
