Obituary of K. M. Beryl Braye
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness the family of Kathleen Marion BERYL Braye share with you her passing on November 28, 2021 at the age of 85 . Beryl passed away peacefully at the Carmelite Home in Grand Falls-Windsor. Beryl will always be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Left to mourn are her children, Shirley(Bill), Judy(Bobby), Cathy(Hughie), Keith(Karen), and Byron; grandchildren Michelle(D’Arcy), Pamela(Steven), Jamie, Gregory(Holly), Kory(Katie), Kate-Lynne, and Tomas; and great grandchildren, Jackson, Olivia, Erica and Faith, sister Bernice and a large circle of extended family and friends.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Munden, infant daughter Caroline Juanita JOY, birth parents Frederick and Winnifred Pynn, foster parents Elsie and Arthur Locke and sisters Elsie, Olive and Violet, brothers Doug and Fred.
Beryl was born in Corner Brook, NL on January 1, 1936. She was an enthusiastic member of The Salvation Army Corner Brook Temple and was brought to salvation under the ministry of Brigadier Charlie Hickman. In that Corps she was an active Corps Cadet, Songster, Sunday School member and regular church attender. As a young woman Beryl moved to Windsor where she met and married her soul mate Munden and continued serving the Lord in a number of different capacities and locations. Beryl always found her place in the Corps she attended whether that was with young people in Corps Cadets or Guiding, Women’s Ministries and Home League, Songsters, or Community Care (League of Mercy) and taking her turn on Christmas Kettles.
Having been raised in a foster home following the death of her birth parents, Beryl understood and valued strong family relationships and a healthy home life. She worked arduously and diligently to provide a solid foundation for her children. She was industrious, creative, and full of ingenuity as she could turn a seemingly empty cupboard into a full course gourmet meal. As her children grew older she worked in a variety of settings in Goose Bay, Labrador City, Grand Falls, Ottawa and Toronto. One of the highlights of her working life, for Beryl, would be her work with The Salvation Army College for Officers Training in Toronto.
Beryl loved to travel and was privileged to see Canada from coast to coast, travel to Holland with the Ottawa Citadel Band and a trip to visit friends in Australia.
Her legacy is and will forever be her strong love for family and friends, and her unprecedented faith in and love for Jesus, her Saviour and Friend.
Heartfelt thanks is extended to all the staff at the Carmelite House. Thank you for caring for our Mother. We are deeply grateful for all you have done.
Majors Peter and Janice Rowe will conduct the funeral service from the Park Street Citadel on Thursday at 1 PM (vaxpass will be required). Interment will follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Caribou Rd., GFW.
