Judith Cohen Atlas
We are very sad to announce the passing of Judy Cohen Atlas on June 18, 2021 at age 65. Judy was born in Montreal to Eileen (Toby) Harris and the late Nathan Cohen, and is survived by her mother Toby, her husband Ken, her son Michael and daughter-in-law Ilana, her son Richard, her grandchildren Mason and Kara, her brothers David (Gilda) and Mark (Marta) Cohen, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marlene Atlas and Rob Salisbury, along with many nieces and nephews and other family members.
Judy began her career as a Chartered Accountant. After Richard was born, Judy decided to do only project-specific work and devote much of her time to family matters. Beginning in 2007, she began to focus more on her artistic pursuits and took up fitness dancing. She eventually became an instructor of two different forms of dance, while at the same time working with her friend Linda Sidel designing and building gardens.
Judy will be sorely missed by her friends and family who loved her very much. She was married to Ken for over 37 years, and they were still very much in love. Judy was much sought after for her ideas and opinions, and would inevitably light up any room she entered. She was very easy to talk to, and would frequently engage in conversations with strangers, which often led to new friendships being formed. Many of her sons’ friends would seek out her counsel, and she developed longstanding relationships with several of them.
A private graveside service will take place, with a Zoom link available. Shiva will be private, and signing up for a specific time slot will be required due to Covid restrictions.
