It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Slim Morin, at the age of 92 after struggling with COPD.
Slim was the eldest of seven children born to parents John and Germaine Morin. He was raised on a farm and went to school in Looma, Alberta, later moving to Edmonton to learn how to weld. To get away from the long winters in Alberta he found a position at Capital Tractors, a John Deere dealership in Vernon, BC, working in the repair shop and later the front office. When he showed interest in opening his own business, John Deere provided him with additional training and eventually offered him the franchise in Nelson BC in 1967. He ran the business very successfully until he retired in 1991 but not wanting to sit idle he ran a backhoe and saw sharpening business and a small farm with sheep, cattle and chickens in Balfour.
He is sadly missed by his partner Marian Ranseth and his children Tom (Lorraine), Doreen (Conrad), Dianne (Charlie) and Lee, his grandchildren Alex, Hope, Kailey, Claire, Kyla, Lani and Eden, plus four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Roxy (nee Maltais) and his brothers Claude and Ray. He will be missed by his siblings Gloria, Lorraine, Dennis (Ann) and Dolores (Barry) and many of his dear friends including Hugh, Paulette, Bob, Archie and Joan and lastly his beloved dog Mia.
As per Slim’s wishes no memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association (www.lung.ca).
