After a very short and courageous battle with cancer, John passed away on November 21st. He is survived by his loving wife, best friend and soulmate of 40 years, Savitri (Lalla).
Predeceased by his parents Eugene and Marion and his younger brother Frank.
John will be missed by all of his large and loving family. He had a special bond with his 2 sisters and will be sorely missed by “Big Sis” Anne Kachur (Ralph) and “Lil Sis” Claire Organ (Don). Also missed by his sister-in-law Pam. John dearly loved his nieces and nephews, Christy, Paul, Charles, John, Katie, Tom, Joe, Jeffrey and Emma and always wanted to know what was going on in their lives.
John will also be sadly missed by Savitri’s family including her siblings: Manbass, Dr. Roopnarine Lalla (Shirley), Krish, Molly, Sat (Jean), Hari (Nora), Chait (Eve), and Shanti (Roger).
John considered cousin Dave Campbell (Pat) to be a 2nd brother and was loved as an uncle by their children, Patrick, Craig and Laura. Also mourning John’s passing is Aunty Phyllis of Calgary (the only remaining member of our parents’ generation) and her family, David, Carolyn and Joanne as well as our Manitoba cousins Pat Reid, Bill Campbell, and Ron and Bruce Brooks.
John was born in Winnipeg on September 27, 1948 and raised in Brantford, Ontario. He lived and worked most of his life in Toronto primarily in the field of Pensions and Employee Benefits at Excelsior Life, Confederation Life and Buck Consultants. While at Confed, John developed deep and lasting friendships which he maintained to this day. John’s friends were very important to him and he was steadfast and loyal to them. Those friendships stemmed from many aspects of his life: those formed through a mutual love of golf, his lifelong friends from Brantford as well as those relationships formed during his working life in Toronto.
John was someone you could always count on; he would always be there if you needed him. He loved his family deeply and looked forward to any opportunity to get together. One of his great joys was cooking Thanksgiving dinner and boy could he cook! A favourite pastime was watching cooking shows such as Bobby Flay and he loved to visit his restaurant when in Vegas.
John loved to travel. He had many fond memories of driving through New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, North and South Carolina. He had a soft spot for Las Vegas and New York City. And on a memorable family trip out west to Alberta and British Columbia in 2019, he was able to relish his two great passions for being on the road and for spending time with those he loved one last time.
