Obituary
John Robert Mitchell of Monarch, Alberta; beloved Husband of Iris, passed peacefully into heaven on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the age of 76 years.
John is survived by his Wife; Iris, his Sons; Trevor (Nicole) Mitchell, Tim Mitchell, Grand-Daughter; Sierra (Nelson) McCulley and Iris’ Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grand Child; Tamara (Chris) Sieben; (Kennedy and her Son; Gavin, Joshua, Sean and Greyson), Trevor (Carolina) Dahlgren; (Michella, Jakob, Haven and Jewel) and Jason Dahlgren and Rhonda Dahlgren; (Jared, Auguste, Jorjia and Chase).
John was predeceased by his first Wife; Mary Lou, his Parents; Bob and Helen Mitchell and Brothers; Glen and Gordon. He is survived by four Sisters; Judy (John’s twin), Linda, Bette, Shirley and one Brother; Ross.
John was born and raised in Kenora, Ontario. At the age of 19, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he trained as a mechanic. He was stationed in Germany for several years and ended his service in Cold Lake, Alberta. A highlight of his career was participating in NATO peacekeeping in Egypt. Following his military service, he worked at Rogers Sugar in Taber, Alberta until his retirement. After retirement, he kept himself busy in his garage repairing small engines and listening to gospel music or fiddle music with the volume full blast. He made many good friends in his garage. He loved to fish and always looked forward to going to Port Hardy and Ontario on fishing trips. He also enjoyed watching golf and curling and because of the company he kept…John became a Saskatchewan Roughrider fan.
John was an airplane enthusiast. In 2006 he began a quest to retrieve parts from a De Havilland Mosquito warplane that had been abandoned and buried at the Kenora Airport. As a young boy, he had played on the plane. In 2007, John and two partners delivered the parts to Virginia. From there they were shipped to New Zealand and used to restore a fully functioning Mosquito. This was such a very important endeavour for John and he spent several years researching and later on participating in the recovery of the parts and then finally delivering the parts. In 2013 the airplane flew in the Hamilton Ontario airshow. The completion of this project was a highlight in his life.
John’s faith in God was very important to him.

The Celebration Of Life will be limited due to covid protocol.
All invited attendees must present at entry EITHER ONE of the following as per Alberta Health:
Proof of two vaccinations with corresponding ID and face mask compliance
Proof of negative PCR test within 72 hours with corresponding ID and face mask compliance
