Obituary
John Richard Wildfong, born in the Hespeler region of Cambridge, Ontario and known to everyone as Jack, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2021, in Okotoks, Alberta at the age of 78 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife Joanne, sons Donald Wildfong, Scott (Jodi) Wildfong, Jeff (Tina) Cordingley and daughter Jennifer (Steve) Cordingley. Grandchildren Kayla, Sam, Jesse, Max and Avani. As well as his beloved dog Buddy. The youngest of 2 boys born to Frank and Esther Wildfong, he was pre-deceased by his parents and brother Doug.
Jack played hockey for the Hamilton Red Wings, an affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. In 1962 his team won the Memorial Cup, emblematic of the Canadian junior hockey championship, against the Edmonton Oil Kings in a sweeping 7-2 victory. In 2015 his Hamilton Red Wings team was inducted into the Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame. He loved hockey and loved to watch his grandkids play the sport.
Jack had a life of varied careers from sheet metal work to real estate to construction project management. In 1992, his work brought him west to Calgary, Alberta where he and Joanne built a life and have resided ever since. Not one to sit still, he loved to fix things and renovate. He always enjoyed tackling a problem head on until he managed to solve it.
In later years, Jack and Joanne enjoyed spending the winters in El Mirage, Phoenix, Arizona and summers in Pine Lake, Alberta. There was no greater pleasure for Jack than a good meal surrounded by the company of good friends. He was passionate about sports and was an avid golfer and curler. He always considered a bad day of golf better than a good day at work.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and staff of the South Calgary Health Campus for their diligent treatment. And all of the Nurses, staff and volunteers at the Foothills Country Hospice for their compassion and care.
