It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the passing of Aurel «John» Desroches at Health Sciences North, on July 24, 2021 at the age of 93. John left this earth peacefully, after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving daughters, Kim, Sue and Dianne. John was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Daraiche (Desroches) and Emelia Ayotte, and his siblings Gerry (Mary), Germaine and Leo. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 60 years, Anita (Predeceased).
John will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Taya, Tony, Jenna, Andrew and Ryan, and deeply missed by his nieces and nephews.
John was born in Field, Ontario in 1927, and the family eventually settled in River Valley, Ontario. He spent his young years helping his Uncles on their farms. He tried his hand at many jobs to help support his family, including manual labour, driving taxi in Sudbury, driving a school bus for kids in Naughton that he quite enjoyed, and a short (short) stint as a miner with Inco. Eventually he found his career in construction working with Pitt and Pioneer, driving larger trucks on many jobs in the Sudbury area. He was an avid hunter in his youth, and had a passion for cars and trucks. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking and building furniture, and tried his hand at baking, passing out his famous banana bread to many of his friends. A sports lover, John enjoyed watching the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Blue Jays. He loved playing golf and enjoyed going out with his buddies for an afternoon round.
The family wishes to thank the medical staff at the Palliative Unit, North Tower, Fourth Floor for their kindness and compassion.
A Memorial Service will be held in the R.J. Barnard Chapel,
Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury
on Thursday July 29th, 2021 at 1pm.
Friends may gather after 12:30 Thursday.
