Joao Gaspar
1936-2021
Joao Gaspar was born in Pico Azores on August 21st
1936. He was predeceased by his parents Manuel and Candida
Gaspar, older brother Manuel, older sister Maria and younger brother
Antonio. He is survived by his wife Rosa, daughter
Paula, son-in-law Allen Sun and grandsons Brandon and Nicholas Sun.
Also by nephews and nieces.
He was a kind and gentle man beloved by family and friends
as well as his neighbors. Always willing to lend a hand to
anyone who needed help.
He loved his garden and his home. He lived a
simple life and liked it that way.
It
has been nearly 5 years since his battle with cancer had begun. Then
kidney failure joined the fight that ultimately took his
life. He handled it all with courage and humour his wife by
his side every step of the way.
He was most proud of his grandsons. He loved his
son-in-law like his own and appreciated all of his help especially
everything his did since he was
sick.
I will remember my dear dad as a man of few words and a big
heart. He made me feel safe and loved
always.
He was married to my mother for 58 years.
Together they built a home and weathered many storms of difficult
immigrant life but always counted on each other to get
through. This last year was particularly hard on both of
them. My mother did her best to keep him at home but ultimately it was
not possible.
He was admitted to Innisfree Hospice on April
22nd. We were all very sad that day. As he began
to decline quickly though we realized that this was what was best for
him. The wonderful staff took great care of him and us
through this end of life journey. I can’t say enough about
how caring and peaceful it felt to know he was in a place like
Innisfree.
Not to be forgotten, many thanks to the palliative care
team especially nurse Abby who always brought a smile to his face as
well as the caring PSW’s that did the home care.
Rest in peace you will be
missed!

interment at Park Lawn cemetery.
