Obituary of Jean F. Flewelling
FLEWELLING JEAN F. – At the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, June 7th, 2021; Jean Freda (Watts) Flewelling of St. Andrews, NB. Born in Saint John, NB, she was the youngest daughter of the late Frederick J. & Myrtle F. (Conley) Watts and wife of the late Robert Flewelling.
Jean was a member of Wesley United Church St. Andrews where she had served on many committees and had been in the choir and served as part time organist for many years. While growing up she attended Portland United Church in Saint John where she taught Sunday school and was in the choir. After she married she attended St. Mark’s United Church in Saint John and was a member of the hand bell choir under the direction of Maurice McIntyre. Jean worked for her father for many years in the hardware store. That was located on Main St.
Jean was A Past Grand Worthy Advisor of Canada, Order of the Rainbow for Girls and received the Grand Cross of Colour degree, served twice as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star – once in Saint John Chapter No. 14 and once in Algonquin Chapter No. 20. She served over 30 times in the Grand Chapter of NB as Grand Organist and Assistant Grand Organist.
Jean Robert (Bob) and family moved to St. Andrews in 1977 where Bob Managed the Save Easy and Jean went to work at Passamaquoddy Lodge for 18 years in the office.
Jean is survived by her children Chandra Flewelling Keith Comeau), Lynn Small (Roger) and son Allan Flewelling (Heather) sister Doreen White (Murray) grandchildren Andrew(Hannah), Christine, Tara Brideau (Evan), Kristen, Adam (Christine), Brooke and Jacob; great grandson Jackson, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Aside from her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by her first husband Alfred N. Peatman Jr. sister Margaret Briggs and nephew Keith Briggs.
In keeping with Jeans’ wishes there will be no formal visitation. Cremation will take place. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Monday, June 14th,th, 2021 at 1:00 pm. In the chapel of Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St. Stephen, NB E3L 2B2 (506 – 466 – 3110). The interment will take place at a later date in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery in Saint John, NB.
Due to circumstances surrounding the pandemic and under the direction of the Dept. of Public Health, seating for the service will be limited. Pre – registration will be required by calling the funeral home. Masks will be mandatory. Covid – 19 prescreening protocols will be in place.
