Keizer, Jean Marie, age 73, of Cape George, Antigonish
County, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2021, in St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, with her family by
her side after a brief illness.
Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Peter and
Hazel (Carpenter) Deyoung.
Jean enjoyed spending her time in her community, be it
working at Boyd’s or the Tuna Interpretive Centre, or
volunteering her time with the Ladies Auxiliary of the North Shore
Fire Department or the Holy Rosary Altar Society. She
enjoyed knitting, sewing, ceramics, and playing cards – but
she was best known for her home cooking. She was famous for her
pickles, squares, and meat pies, and she always had a freezer full of
goodies. Jean loved a good dance, 60s music, and Darryl
MacLean in the afternoon.
She is survived by her children, Peter (Ian Stevenson), Port
Hawkesbury; Greg (Allana), St. Joseph’s; Collette (William)
Brady, Cape George Point; Janine Keizer, Cape George; and Louise
Keizer, Barrie, Ontario; grandchildren, Beth Anne, Robyn Lynn, and
Iain Keizer; and siblings, Patrick (Mary Theresa), Bernice (Robert)
Doiron, Joe (Maureen), Pierre (Jessie), William (Margie), and Carmel
(Boyd) MacPherson, all of Pomquet; Therese (Ernie) Falkenham,
Greenfield; and Lucille Deyoung, Kanata, Ontario.
Predeceased by her husband, John Lewis
« Lewie ».
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in
C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday in Holy Rosary Church, Ballantynes
Cove, at 10:00am, Reverend Andrew Boyd presiding. Proof of
vaccination is required for both visitation and funeral, and masks are
mandatory.
Burial in the parish cemetery.
In Memoriam, donations to the North Shore Volunteer Fire
Department or the IWK Hospital appreciated.
