Jean’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jean Dora Hewlin (nee Payne) announce her passing peacefully surrounded by her family at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on October 31, 2021 at the age of 79 years.
Leaving to mourn the love of her life and he rock her husband George, her wonderful children Lorraine (Blaine) Brake her grand puppy Charli of Corner Brook, NL, and John (Holly Simon) Hewlin of Lakewood Ranch, FL, her shining stars her grandchildren Jonathon Brake of Toronto, ON and Matthew (Janet MacGillivray) Brake of Mount Pearl, NL, her adopted grandchild Huda Al Khayat, Doha, Qatar, her special little ones her great-grandchildren George and Meredith. Her siblings Thelma Hutchings, Gwendolyn Payne, Jessie (Grace) Payne, Muriel (Jack) Webb, Derek (Elaine) Payne and Jacqueline (Max) King. Her sisters and brother in law Ann Hewlin, Rex (Irene) Hewlin, Ray Hewlin, Nellie (Eric) Brown, and Cindy (Raymond) Caines. Also a large number of nieces (especially Nora Shears and Millicent Payne), nephews and other relatives, extended family and friends.
Jean was predeceased by her parents (Georgina (nee Brophy) and John L. Payne, her sisters Marion (Ken) Kennedy, Doris (Clayton) Roberts and Barbara Marie Payne; her brother Kevin Payne. Her mother and father in law Lillian (nee Knott) and John (Jack) Hewlin. Her brother and sister in laws Frank Hutchings, Obadiah Payne, Hiram Hewlin, Charles (Effie, Beulah) Hewlin and Llewelyn Hewlin.
Jean worked as the Post Master for Canada Post in Sally’s Cove – where she made people’s lives easier by filling out government forms, writing needed correspondences and being there to help them understand it all. She also worked as a bookkeeper, personal care attendant and her last job was a Park Interpreter at the Broom Point location with Parks Canada. She loved all her jobs but she also loved her family unconditionally. She also loved knitting and especially playing cards; she loved to play cards with Muriel, Jack, Blaine, Lorraine and anyone who was up to a competitive game. Her favorite game was cribbage that she and George played on a daily basis. She was also very much involved in her church, and she was a member of ACW where she took on leadership roles.
Visitation for family and friends will take place Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021 from 5-9 PM and Thursday November 4th from 10 AM -1 PM at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Cow Head, NL. The funeral service will take place Thursday, November 4th, 2021, at 2:00 PM at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Cow Head, NL with Reverend Terry Rose officiating, interment will follow at the Cow Head Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kristy Thompkins and Yvonne Gulliver for their unwavering support and outstanding care for the last twenty years. Also thank you to Dr. Hughes, Dr. Jo and the nursing staff of 3B and 3C at WMRH. A special thanks to Derek Payne for giving Jean a stem cell transplant over 20 years ago.
The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, Deer Lake, NL.
