James Loy Smith-age 64 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 9, 2021. Jimmy lived life hard, as anyone who knew him could attest to. He loved fiercely and fought his battles in his own way, right or wrong. He was in the Dry-Cleaning Service Business, and was most proud of his time overseas as a Civilian Contractor for the Army, where he was stationed in Northern Iraq. Although he never had a wife or children, he dearly loved his nieces and nephews, and was very impressed with their accomplishments. In his last few years, his Rottweiler, Diesel, was his best friend and service dog. He never went anywhere without her. Jim was a Christian man and had a strong faith in God.
Preceded in death by his parents, Loy Smith and Jean Smith.
Survived by his brothers, David Smith, and Jeff Smith; sister, Scottie Baxter; step mother, Lonna Smith; many nieces and nephews; and special friend Fred Williams.
Family and friends will gather Wednesday, September 15 at Thorngrove Cemetery, for a graveside service and interment, officiated by Pastor Mark Kidd. Time of graveside to be announced soon. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Young Williams Animal Center.
