With sadness we announce that Jim passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 26, 2021 in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Karen (nee Killby) for over 57 years. Loving father of Jennifer (Paul Dryburgh) and Jason Baker (Lori). Proud Papa/Poppa of Merlyn, Evangeline, Marleigh and Kalynn. Dear brother of Don (predeceased), Dorothy, Bob, Meta, Rae and brother-in-law of Bob Killby. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. Jim was a longtime active member of St. George’s of Forest Hill Anglican Church. He was a former employee of the Waterloo Region District School Board, having worked at Jacob Hespeler and Forest Heights Collegiate Institutes. In 2007, Jim was inducted into the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 1956 Br. 431 Bantam Baseball All Stars. Not only a great athlete, Jim was the biggest fan of his 4 granddaughters and the sports they played.
Jim’s family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener. Please note that if you plan to attend, masks are mandatory and you must RSVP your attendance through the funeral home website or by calling (519) 749-8467. A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy donations to Jumpstart (a charity committed to ensuring children have equal access to sports) would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
