It is with great sadness that the family of James Peter “Jamie” Whynacht, 59 of Lunenburg announces his passing on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
Born in Lunenburg on June 13, 1961, he was the son of the late James Charles and Robina Beatrice Emily (Black) Whynacht.
Jamie worked for Canada Post for over 27 years and in later years as Post Master in Mill Village. He continued to work at the ESSO Service Station until his retirement due to ill health.
Jamie was proud of his hometown of Lunenburg where in earlier years refereed hockey and enjoyed a good game of Darts at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23, Lunenburg.
He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Jamie is survived by his wife, Peggy, sister, Susan Whynacht (John Mulley), Bridgewater, stepchildren, Candice Hirtle (Marc Pease), Dartmouth, Jennifer Hirtle, England and Josh Hirtle, (Katherine Hiltz), Tantallon; step-grandson, Ethan; mother-in-law, Phyllis Zinck, Lunenburg; nephew, Barrett (Melissa) Risser, Bruhm Rd. and niece, Tabatha Risser (Paul) Maxwell, Hebbville and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Gregory and Malcolm.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, and where a memorial service by invitation only for family and close friends will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Rick Pryce officiating. Jamie’s many friends are invited to gather at the interment at Garden Lots Cemetery, Garden Lots following the service at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada or to a charity of your choice.
