Death Notice
James Frank Eastwood
We announce the passing of Jim Eastwood, aged 93, peacefully in his sleep on January 11 at Manor Village in London Ontario. Pre-deceased by Dorothy, his wife of 60 years, and his sisters Doris and Evelyn. Father of Dennis (Margaret), Brian (Vera) and Bruce (Joanne), grandfather to Michael, Tom, Sarah and Blair, and great-grandfather to Wesley.
After working in advertising in various companies for many years Jim concluded that he was a square peg in a round hole, and that it was time to start something new. He came to London in 1973 to start a St Clair Paint and Wallpaper franchise, where he quickly found building his own business was his real passion. After expanding to 7 stores in London, Woodstock and Sarnia, he started Covers in 1986. To all who met him he always said he was “just a peddler”, but to all who knew him he was that and much more. He was constantly inventing and improving things for his businesses. At the age of 65 he turned to computers and computer programming for the first time to develop systems to support his business. Retiring in 2009 he volunteered for Kiwanis for many years after that.
An avid skier and golfer, he was a member at Sunningdale Golf Club right up to the end. In his mind a round of golf should always end with a Guinness. With his usual inventiveness he taught them how to take their cold beer and heat it gently to serve it properly (i.e. warm).
We wish to thank the staff at Manor Village for his care and for keeping him safe throughout the pandemic. Special thanks to Diana, care giver and friend for the past 8 years, first to Dorothy and then to Jim.
As per Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral and private burial arrangements have been made.
