Jacqueline C Topolie 2021

Dec10, 1929 -September 23, 2021
It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother. After a courageous battle with Alzheimers and Dementia she made the journey home to be with her beloved husband John
Mom was predeceased by husband John (2006), parents Martin Eagen (1994) and Dorothy Eagen (1973)
She is survived by sisters Patricia Caldwell(Frank), Nancy Sekinger and Judy Stoyanovich.
She leaves behind her nine children, Tamela Topolie, Martin Topolie, Michael Topolie(Cheryl), Timothy Topolie (Debby), Jolene Roberts, Anthony Topolie Danielle Topolie, Nicole Bowie(Graham).
Grandma Jackie’s 21 grandchildren all have wonderful memories to share with her 15 great grandchildren.
Aunt Jackie is also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and her good friend Patricia Regier.
Jackie grew up in Windsor Ontario as the eldest of 4 girls. She met her husband John at a dance. He offered to escort her home and he did so by bus. She often told the story of how she thought he had a car! The lack of an automobile certainly didn’t stop this relationship. He later got his first car from her father..
They got married after our father served in the Second World War on June 4, 1949. As the family grew they moved to Belle Isle View in old Riverside. The house expanded to accommodate 9 children. It was filled with love, laughter and song. Our parents believed in the value of discipline but were always caring.
Mom was involved in other activities outside of the home. She was a Girl Guide Leader, a member of the Catholic Women’s League and sang in the church choir at St Thomas the Apostle Church. Her love of singing also led her to become a member of the Sweet Adelines. She and our father also joined a bowling league.
As her children left the nest, Mom decided she wanted to work.. She tried her hand at various positions but eventually got her dream job as a Teacher’s Aide at Brennan High School. Working with children was second nature to her. She also worked later at St. Wilfrid’s with younger children. Mom often talked about the joy of young children and the value of listening to them
Our family always went on vacations in the summer. Our mother thought it important that on returning to school in the fall, children should have adventures to talk about. We rented various cottages in the vicinity but eventually they bought an old schoolhouse in Dyers Bay near Tobermory. How fitting! Later, after selling that, they purchased a more modern cottage in nearby Dorcas Bay on Larry’s Lake. The grandchildren loved that place.
After retirement, John and Jackie became snowbirds first in Panama City, Florida and later buying a mobile home in Leesburg Florida.
After Dad’s passing Mom continued to travel to Florida to stay there for 6 months of the year. She got around on her golf cart in the trailer park. She also participated in the Park Players a vaudeville revue to continue her love of singing.
Mom led a fill and active life that was curtailed in her later years due to age and debility. She never lost her sense of humor. Special thanks to the staff at Iler Lodge where she spent her final years.
