Cobie Stomphorst (nee VanManen) passed away peacefully on January 2, 2021, at the age of 83 at Milton District Hospital. She leaves behind her beloved husband Gerry of 63 years. Loving mother to Rick (Julia), John (Beth), and Michael (Anne) and much-loved Grandma to Matthew, Daniel, Shannon, Josh, Jamie, Krista, Sarah, Andrew & Christopher; whom she was always happy to babysit. Cobie was born in Holland and called Canada home for 68 years. Martin Street in Milton was her home since 1978.
Cobie is predeceased by her father Anthonie VanManen, her mother Geesje « Grace » VanManen, sisters Fransien Nyhof, Mary DeVries, Jane Gaasbeek and brothers Henk VanManen and Gerrit VanManen. Loved by her surviving brothers and sisters Willie VanVeen Tony (Sharron) VanManen, Kees (Cecilia) VanManen, Henny (Doug) Eaton, Frank (Brenda) VanManen, and John (Dianne) VanManen.
Cobie will always be remembered for her devotion to her church and large extended family. She volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Allendale Long Term Care Home. Cobie was a proud member of the Dutch Liberation Choir, touring Holland during the 50th Anniversary of the end of WWII. She was selfless, and right to the end said “I’m ok”.
Cobie always favoured being outside, enjoying the deck, camping, and in her later years could be found sitting outside at Martindale Gardens Retirement Home front entrance every hospitable day.
A small private family funeral service will take place on January 7th. We hope to have a Celebration of Life when it’s safe to do so.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Knox Presbyterian Church in Milton (bit.ly/knox-stomphorst) or the Alzheimer Society of Canada (bit.ly/alzheimer-stomphorst) are appreciated.
