Obituary for
Jacob Alexander Lister
Jake was born June 11,1996 in Mission BC. He was taken from us in a tragic accident on the night of November 12, 2021. Heartbroken are his parents, Fred & Wanda Lister; and Jake’s siblings; Sarah, Kelsey (Chris), Eric & Claire (Noah).Predeceased by his grandparents Ray (Stella) Lister, Dena (Lee) Smith, Bernard & Helen Thiesen; and his Uncle, Nicholas Lister.
Jake leaves behind so many Family, friends & co-workers that loved, valued & respected him for the wonderful, very intelligent, introspective, curious, humble & loyal man he was. He was a man of good character & decency.
At just under 6′ 6″ Jake was hard to miss but it’s the rare Innocence with which he saw the world and his pure heart, love, sense of humour & absolute faith that truly stood out.
Jake was a happy kid, always thoughtful and wanting to be a good boy, who moved with his family and attended school in Abbotsford BC, Bald Rock NS, Taber and Vegreville AB, where he graduated.
Jake had worked at Edmonton Home depot, Lowes & The Government of Alberta before starting on his career path working on The Giant mine reclamation project for the Federal government. He was proud of his job & progressing. He really liked the people he got to work with and looked forward to everyone working in person at the Canada Place offices. When not working Jake loved spending time with his family & friends. He had unique relationships with all his siblings and really appreciated his family. He always made his parents proud. More than he could ever know. Our lives will never be the same.
Jake kept really detailed journals. He wrote what he thought & felt and then why he thought and felt what he did. He wanted to know the how & why of everything. He enjoyed reading and always learning.
Jake was a talented artist. He drew and created the characters of Derp & The Walrus, for which he won top prize in animation at a film festival for. He made video games, wrote & performed beautiful music and had recently started painting. For a while he baked a lot of scones & cookies and gave them to family & friends. He said he loved all mediums of expressing himself, just in different ways at different times.
Jake had just started organizing a project that he said would be his life’s work. Working with others to find the true culture of Canada & celebrate it. He had big plans and we know he would have succeeded.
Jake had always yearned for a close, honest group of friends that he could experience life with. He found that in Edmonton. His friends are true, honest & amazing. Through church, fellowship, small group & volunteering at Reconcile Saturday nights Jake made forever friends. These friends are helping carry our family right now and we are so grateful to them. Jake loved to walk the Legislature grounds. He planned to move nearer to that area so he could run in the river valley as well.
Jake dreamed of having his own family one day and living on a bit of land with them. He had it all planned.
He loved to host or be part of wing nights, parties, movies & gatherings. At a recent friend’s wedding he discovered he really liked to dance and looked forward to doing it again. He always brought the LaCroix. He liked Guinness too. He would happily have pie for dessert after breakfast and a fancy ice cream shop was a real treat for him. He really liked dressing up fancy, wild or in a costume for Halloween. To hear Jake laugh was pure joy. If he really got going he would fold in half, long legs sprawled out, laughing so hard till tears came from his eyes.
If Jake told you something was « THE BEST! » He meant it. In that moment whatever he was referring to he truly meant it. His hair grew so fast that you never were sure which Jake you would see. Long wavy hair with a beard, short hair, no beard. It was a mystery. He had recently cut his hair very short again. When asked why he said, « I was reading the Bible and thought maybe I shouldn’t have long hair ». When we said, « But Jake, Jesus?? His hair was pretty long »
He looked over with his beautiful smile and his eyes lit up when he said « Yeah, I may have misinterpreted that one ».
Jake is in Heaven now with his beloved bunny, Barney. He never said goodbye to family without saying I love you and we know he did. Our hearts are broken but how lucky are we that this beautiful boy was, and always will be, ours. We love you so very much Jake.
