It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of our beloved father Jack. Devoted husband to the late Carolyn Rutherford (nee Gillings). Much loved father of Bruce (Katrina), Brenda (Mike), and Jack (Kathy) Rutherford. Adored grandfather “Pop” of Carolyn (Tyler), Clayton, Jenny, Mike (Brooke), Steve, Naomi (Jason), Jackson, and the late Alex. Proud great-grandfather to Myla, Jack, and Clyde. Jack is survived by his siblings Jean Taplin, Billie Kemp, and Marianne Chapelle, and in-laws Lois Atkins and George(Rosie) Gillings. Predeceased by his siblings Sandy Rutherford, Onie Myles, and Bettie Peacock. He will be deeply missed by his large extended family and countless friends.
Jack approached life with humour and optimism, always bringing joy and comfort to those around him. Everyone who remembers him, will remember his unshakable commitment to helping others and his unique ability to spark laughter wherever he went. For those that enjoyed interacting with him on social media, they will remember his uncanny ability to find the perfect “gif”. On any given day, Jack could be found sitting by the harbour with a Tim’s coffee in hand, driving around the countryside, or watching one of many sports.
The family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Northumberland Hills Hospital Emergency Department.
In keeping with Jack’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at Cobourg Union Cemetery on August 11, 2021 at 11 am. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of Jack, you may honour his memory by paying it forward with a kind act for another.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Jack Edgar McCaul
