Islay Mavis Meier (nee Thompson)
August 5, 1947 – April 22, 2021
Islay passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital ICU, Saskatoon, SK on Thursday, April 22, 2021 with her family by her side.
Islay was born August 5, 1947 in Assiniboia, SK to Murray & Dorothy Thompson. She resided in Assiniboia until she completed school. After graduating she moved to Saskatoon to take a secretarial course at Robertson Business College. After completion of her course she worked for CN Rail.
While attending business college she met the love of her life Norm and they were married July 27, 1968 and had one daughter Leah.
In 1977 Islay and her family moved to Rosthern, SK where her husband had the IH Dearlership.
After Leah was born in 1973 Islay stopped working for the CN and was a homemaker. When Leah was in high-school she took a part-time job working at the Sears order desk in Rosthern and also worked part-time at the Rosthern Jewellery store.
Islay & Norm moved back to Saskatoon in 1992 and then lived in Rosetown for a few years but eventually made Saskatoon their home again in 2006.
Islay’s strong loving personality that has touched the lives of many will truly be missed by all that new her.
She was predeceased by her parents Murray & Dorothy Thompson, brother Colin Thompson, in-laws John & Theresa Meier, and sister in-law Shirley Selzler.
She is survived by her loving husband Norm of almost 53 years, daughter Leah Meier, family pet Moka (Moki), several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation in her memory.
A Private Family Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 with live-streaming available at www.faithproductions.ca/livestream .
