In loving memory of Helena Kyllikki Kerola (nee Uusitalo), 91 years who passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. Beloved wife of Jouni Kerola predeceased 2019. Loving mother of Anne (husband Michael Shody) and the late Jari predeceased 1980. Cherished Mummu of Kirsten (Dave) and Rebecca (Scott). Dear daughter of Selim and Helmi (Kumlander) Uusitalo predeceased. Loving sister of Simo (Helvi) and Oili and predeceased by Matti, Antti, Eeva, Ville, Heikki, Kirsti, Pirkko and Maija. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. She immigrated from Finland to Canada in 1957. She was proud of being a charter and founding member of Finlandia Village. She was an exceptional homemaker, skilled as a seamstress with knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. Helena embodied the values of the Finnish Word SISU. She will be remembered as a very kind and compassionate person who was always quick to help others. A woman of faith she had been a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and now New Hope Lutheran Church. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff at Finlandia Village for their excellent care, support and friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations to Finlandia Village SISU Foundation or New Hope Lutheran Church would be appreciated. At Helena’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Cremation with a family committal service in the family plot at Maplecrest Cemetery, Dowling. A celebration of her life will be held in 2022.
