HEINZ ALBERT BRAUN
February 24, 1958 – June 23,2021
It is with great sadness I announce the peaceful passing of Heinz after a lengthy illness at the age of 63.
Heinz is survived by his partner Lorraine, sister Hilda, brother Ernie and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Elsie and George Braun.
Heinz spent his whole life living in the North Kildonan/ Elmwood area of Winnipeg. He was the youngest son of three children born to Elsie and George Braun. As a child he managed to get into trouble and spent a lot of time in the doctor’s office being stitched or bandaged. When he was old enough, his sister Hilda made sure that he got to and from school safely, keeping the bullies away from him.
As he grew up he was drawn to sports and was very good at them. Soccer became his first love. He played on the Manitoba and Canadian teams. He also played for the Minnesota Kicks professionally for a few years. Later on in life he coached some girls’ teams.
One of his friends growing up was a small dog named Peanuts. He was the runt of the litter, but he had the biggest heart of all of them. They would eat Alphabits together in the morning for breakfast. Later on when they were older, they also would share pizza before bed.
Heinz’ parents owned a cottage out at Grand Marais. He would go out on weekends with them so he could fish and ride his dirt bike. Every Saturday morning he would go to his fishing hole and catch perch for his mom and dad. While they were cleaning them he would go riding on his dirt bike. He would try to avoid the RCMP, but that didn’t always work.
When Heinz got older he gave up dirt bikes for fast cars. I believe he had his first accident not long after he got his license.
When Heinz moved in with me, he had a vintage cereal bowl that I was not allowed to use.
A few weeks ago I came home from work, Heinz told me he had something to tell me. When I asked what happened, he said, “ I broke my cereal bowl today… something bad is going to happen.” And here we are.
Life with Heinz has been interesting. Through it all there has always been bright shining moments, good times and laughter.
I would like to thank my nieces for all their help through this time, St. Boniface Hospital emergency who took great care of Heinz and also myself as well.
Interment has already taken place.
