Obituary
HAROLD RICHARDSON MACLEAN
SEPTEMBER 26, 1924 – APRIL 26, 2021
Harold R. MacLean, 96, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Health Centre, Moncton, NB on April 26, 2021. Harold was born in Chatham, NB to John E. MacLean and Katherine (MacDonald).
If you looked up the word “generous” in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Harold. He planted a garden to give vegetables to neighbours and friends. He bought extra groceries when gardening was no longer an option. He fed the neighbourhood cats leftovers or purchased cat food. Whether a milkman, paperboy, homecare worker, friend or family, no one left Harold’s home empty handed. He also rewarded the people who helped him with his constant generosity.
Harold took a train to Halifax, got on a ship and headed across the ocean to serve his country in WWII. Upon his return he found his way to Toronto where he worked for Massey Ferguson as a welder and later spent the balance of his working years at Toronto Hydro until his retirement. Harold then chose to return to the Miramichi, living a simple life, making friends and helping others, as was his nature.
Harold was predeceased by his parents; sisters: Helen Burke (Joe), and Mary Kingston (Cecil); brothers: Burvil (Mary), and Howard (Lottie). He is survived by one sister, Lavina Dower (Mel), and many nieces and nephews who were blessed to have known him.
The family of Harold would like to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Veterans Health Centre for their kindness, compassion, and care given to Uncle Harold. We always knew he was safe and loved. We would also like to thank his special caregiver and friend in the Miramichi, Joanne McLenaghan, who treated Uncle Harold like family.
Donna and John will never forget this very special man we were so very fortunate to have known and spend time with. With Love, Uncle Harold, thank you!
No formal service is planned as per Harold’s wishes. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492 or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca
