Culbert, Gordon Meldrum (Mel)

Died peacefully at home with his wife by his side. Predeceased by his first wife Jeanne (2008). Cherished husband and best friend of Cynthia. Loving father of JoAnne, Kathryn, Joan and Steven. Loved stepfather of Erin, Graeme and Garth. Much loved grandpa of Amanda, Austin, Bobbi-Lynn and Shane. Loved step grandpa to Graeme Jr., Caitlyn, Max and Rory. Proud great grandpa of Joshua, Lincoln, Mercedes, Gemma, Bailey, Easton and Chase and step great grandpa to Addilyn.
Gordon was a decorated WWII Naval veteran who served aboard HMCS Brantford on convoy duty in the North Atlantic. He served with the Toronto Police Department, Badge#590 and was employed with the TTC. An avid hockey player, he was a defenceman with the Toronto Midget Marlies of the THL.
One of his proudest accomplishments, after returning from the Naval service was the granting of his MBA from the University of Toronto in 1957,
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Member of Northern Light Lodge #366 AF&AM Stayner where he received his 50-year pin.
He was the last remaining Charter Member of Manito Shrine Club Collingwood where he was honoured with a Life Membership. He was the Charter Secretary when the club was formed in 1970 and became President in 1982.
He was a Life Member of Rameses Shrine Toronto. He was Past Commander of the Legion of Honour (2005) Rameses Shrine Toronto.
He was also a Life Member of the Georgian Bay Coin and Stamp Club and was involved for many years with CPICA.
Gordon operated Gordon Culbert Tax Service for many years and recently spent his summers with Cynthia as a seasonal camper on Manitoulin Island. He was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.
He will be missed by many friends in Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Stayner and Manitoulin Island.
He will be especially missed by his “baby” Prince, who was his constant companion.
Cremation has taken place, interment at Stayner Union Cemetery.
Special thanks to Dr. Leo Lam and his staff at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital for their excellent care of Gordon during his battle with kidney failure.
Very special thanks to our Family Doctor Sohail Gandhi of Stayner, whose care and concern will never be forgotten.
Thanks to Palliative Care Nurse, Carrie Pyatt from St. Elizabeth Nursing for all her care and support.
Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital – Kidney Care Clinic, Collingwood General & Marine Hospital or Hospice Georgian Triangle.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
