It is with great sadness that our family announce the passing of Gordon Leonard Bell.
On Thursday, October 07, 2021, Gordon, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away suddenly at home with his wife Bonnie of 52 years at his side.
Gordon was born on November 29, 1942, in Medicine Hat, Alberta to parents Len and Lila Bell and raised in Drumheller. He moved to Nelson in 1966 where he met and married his true love Bonnie. They lived in Nelson for many years where they were proud to raise John and Colleen.
Gordon was proud to work in the automotive and industrial sales industry for his entire career. A shining achievement for him was bringing the first Honda dealership to Nelson in 1975. His demeanor, honesty and integrity allowed him to succeed and build life long friendships within this community. In 1992 the family relocated to Edmonton where they enjoyed being close to his brother Keith and family for nearly 10 years. Gordon and Bonnie returned to Nelson in 2001 and have always appreciated being back in the beautiful Kootenays. Gordon would often say “It sure is good to be home.” Gordon volunteered with Nelson Tramway Society and had fun operating the tram, seeing old friends and treating tourists to some of Nelson’s lesser known history.
Gordon was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and role model. He was honest, generous, inclusive and a wonderful neighbour offering a helping hand or opinion whenever he could. His wit and humour will live in our hearts forever. Gordon enjoyed being a Papa and was proud of his grand children whom he loved very much. His passion for camping, hunting and being with friends never faded. He loved maintaining his home, growing tomatoes and spending time with his wife and family.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents, sister and 2 brothers. Gordon is survived by his wife Bonnie; his children: Lloyd (Heather) Bloomfield, Raymond (Dana) Bloomfield, John (Jamie Simon) and Colleen (Jason Barabonoff). Grandkids: Andy (Karen) Grady, Amanda (Lee) Kueppers, Lucas and Adam Barabonoff; Lila and Ryder Bell; Great grandchildren: Mason, Jordyn, Charlotte, Jack and Isla.
Gordon will be truly missed and will always have a special place in our hearts.
There will be a funeral held on Tuesday, October 19th, 2021 at 1:30 pm at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate in Nelson, followed by a graveside burial. Due to COVID restrictions the funeral attendance will be by invite only. Live streaming of the funeral will be available. Prayers will be held Monday evening at 7 pm at the Thompson Funeral home.
The family would like to thank the fast acting neighbours, BC Ambulance team and the Northshore Fire Department for their quick and professional response. In lieu of flowers, donations to BC Alzheimer’s Society or BC Heart and Stroke Fund are appreciated.
We love you Gord!
