Don transitioned on to his next great adventure in Wetaskiwin, Alberta on March 25th, 2021. He was surrounded by love with his family as he moved on.
Don was born in Luscar, Alberta, to Edward and Margaret (Kulyk) Gitzel and grew up in Hinton, Alberta, with his siblings Gerry, Sandra, Barbara and Laurie. Don spent the greater portion of his life living in Edmonton and Millet, Alberta. Don was a wonderful husband to his wife Sigrid for 47 years, together with Sigrid, Don was blessed to become a Father to Caroline (Richard), then Daniel (Erin), and ultimately Grandfather to Daniel’s sons Kai and Leo; all who he loved and supported dearly up to and beyond his passing.
A social butterfly, Don enjoyed meeting new people. Whether supporting his family, helping friends, caring for birds, or walking shelter dogs, Don’s heart was shared. As a mechanically inclined electrician, trouble-shooter, and constructor, Don helped many people with reliable solutions for their issues.
At home, a person would likely have found Don in the garage tinkering or building his Jeep. During the winters in Yuma he may have been found target shooting in the desert with his friends. Wherever Don was found there was always a was chance he may have been bending the rules just enough to make things a little more fun.
Don will be honored by his immediate family with an intimate service in the coming weeks. A larger celebration of life with friends and family will follow later in the year or when appropriate.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de GITZEL Donald Neil March 25 2021..
