O’Rourke, Gerald William (Gerry/Gerk/Perky)
Peacefully at Centennial Place, in the arms of his loving children on Thursday, October 21, in his 91st year. A caring and devoted father, Gerry is survived by his daughter Maureen (Jay), son Michael (Michelle) and daughters Patti (Steve) and Katie (Steve). Papa/Gramps adored and was loved very much by his grandchildren Jason O’Rourke, Hannah Amer-O’Rourke and Sam Calder. Predeceased by his parents Edward & Marguerite (Courneyea) O’Rourke, his brother Harry, sister-in-law Barb, former wife Cecile and son Tim. The O’Rourke boys are reunited with their loved ones, singing and playing old country songs on their guitars together again. Gerry worked in Main Test at GE for 40 years and enjoyed 30 years of retirement, spending many happy summers at his beloved « Camp » on Mazinaw Lake. Born on Perry Street during the depression, in his youth he enjoyed helping out on his grandparent’s farm on French Settlement Road in Tweed. Gerry began his working life at a young age and was a proud union steward at GE for many years, supporting many of his colleagues through difficult times. Gerry and family lived in Donwood in a house he had built and called home for over 60 years. He was a dedicated participant in Mass every week and enjoyed playing his guitar, country drives, a coffee and a good conversation any time. Gerry will be missed by his nephews Sean, Kevin and Ted and their families, his extended family in Tweed, former neighbours at Mazinaw Lake, along with Reg Fowler and Peterborough Orfuns football team friends who he enjoyed meeting up with on a monthly basis for many years, and Hudson. Special thank you to the exceptional team at Centennial Place in Millbrook who ensured Gerry spent his final two years surrounded with love, comfort and care. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at IMMACULATE CONCEPTION ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 386 Rogers Street, Peterborough at 11:00 am on Friday, October 29, 2021. Vivid 19 restrictions are in place and face coverings are mandatory. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery to follow service. Celebration of Gerry’s life to follow at a later date. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerry can be made to the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame or Five Counties Children’s Centre.
