It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George Bereziuk, 70, of Ancaster on April 18, 2021. George is survived by his beloved wife Deborah (Debbie) Bereziuk and children Steven (Sarah) Bereziuk, Bryan (Andrea) Bereziuk and Lindsay (Brad) Cater. Papa George is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren Benjamin, Penelope, Julianne and Sebastian.
George was born in England to Stefan (deceased) and Helena Bereziuk, and leaves behind sisters Stephanie and Vera. After moving to Canada in 1957, the family settled in the east end of Hamilton where George spent countless hours with the Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club. A graduate of Delta Highschool, George began his career in sales at Stelco in 1970. This marked the beginning of 33 years with the company, including 4 in Vancouver and 7 in Winnipeg. George met and fell in love with Debbie while both were working at Stelco, and by 1976 they were married.
A testament to his passion, work ethic and drive, George continued his career as General Manager of Stellarc Bar Products in Brantford from 2003 – 2010. In 2010, he proudly took on the role of General Manager and Vice-President of Union Drawn Steel (UDS) in Hamilton, until his retirement in late 2020. During this time, he travelled with and forged a cherished bond with Mike Pitterich, UDS President. The consummate gentleman, George lived his life with conviction, respect and deep love for his family and friends. He treasured enduring friendships with fellow east-enders the Duffields, Newells, Ashtons and Laverys.
Through the ups and downs of life, George shared many fond memories and fun times with the Toths, the Pasztors, the Hopfners, the Closes, the Barnetts, the Goddards, Stan Zientara, the late Gord Rich, the late Bruce Rich, Joe Ligaj, Scotty Fowler, Donna Fraser, Frank Wood, Jim Crompton, Greg Anderson, John Curtis, Brad Brindle, Mel Head, Doug Ashton, Sam Kaufalski, Dave Moulden, Bob Easter, Peter Thom, Paul Staats, the Reiners, the Polecks, Filice Gualtieri, Kalipso Terpoy and the staff at LoPresti’s at Maxwells. George possessed an unparalleled passion for golf and since 2014, was a proud member of the Beverly Golf and Country Club. He shared his love of sport and recreation with his children, whom he spent countless hours cheering on and chauffeuring to and from their rep sports and recreational endeavours.
Deepest appreciation is extended to Dr. Lumb and Dr. Levine for their compassion and care through George’s long-term struggle with ulcerative colitis and most recently cancer. Sincere gratitude is offered to Ron Black, Owner and Executive Vice-President of American Iron and Metal, for establishing a scholarship program in George’s honour as a legacy donation to the Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club.
Thanks are extended to Jason Hardy of Iconic Metal Gear, Al Schutten of Janco Steel, Bernie Skyes of Nova Steel and Walter Sommer of Mana Group for their generous contributions to this donation. God blessed us with the most incredible husband, father, grandfather and friend. He taught us how to live by the example of his actions and through his relentless support. Dad, we love you fiercely and miss you dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in George’s name to the Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Rd. Hamilton. Due to the present COVID regulations the Bereziuk family will have a private funeral service on Friday April 23, 2021.
