Obituary for George Edwin Robson
Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, July 10th, 2021, in his 83rd year. Predeceased by his parents and siblings, and survived by his extended family in England.
Sadly missed by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jennie. Proud father of sons Andrew (Kim), and Alex (Hilary), and daughter Amy (Chris), and very proud grandfather of Matthew, Emma, Olivia, Alexander Jr., Evelyn, Hugo. George will also be missed by countless friends.
George came to Canada in 1963, met his true love Jennie, and they created their life together in Hamilton and Dundas. George was a Merchant seamen before his arrival in Canada and then joined CN Rail and Via Rail as a locomotive engineer until his retirement. After retirement George and Jennie travelled the world, including teaching stints in England and Thailand, they loved spending time with their children and grandchildren and made many friends in Florida, their winter destination for the past 20 years. They loved listening to music, lawn bowling and playing cards.
George was a massive Newcastle United fan, very active in founding the Dundas Youth Soccer Association and coached and toured with select teams including memorable trips to Scotland and the USA. George was known for his wonderful singing voice and was a longtime member of the Canadian Orpheus Male Choir, a highlight being their performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. George was a loving, wonderful, kind gentleman with a great sense of humour and many people felt blessed to consider him a friend. George could make friends with a prince or a pauper, be charming beyond words and make anyone he spoke with feel like the most important person in the room. Cremation has taken place. The details of his celebration of life will be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Prostate Cancer.
