Fredrick Robert Gate
It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the passing of Fredrick Robert Gate on March 9, 2021.
He was Born July 15, 1945 in Bergland, Ontario in his family home. He was the ninth child of parents Cecil and Mable Gate, and grew up on the family farm with his eleven siblings.
He met the love of his life and best friend Nancy McQuaker in Rainy River, Ontario. Fred told his friend that he was going to marry this girl but he had to get a date first.
They married in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 26, 1963 in the Chapel of the White Star. They returned to Bergland in the Fall on 1964.
Fred worked many years as a tourist guide on Lake of the Woods in Nester Falls, Ontario. He was also employed by his Brother Chuck at the Buena Vista Resort and the McCrosson Tovell School for many years.
What Fred enjoyed the most in life was his family. He enjoyed growing his prized pumpkins, taking home the Golden Hoe; Not once but twice. He loved the outdoors, the hunt every fall with his brother Billy and many other family members. He enjoyed cutting lawns for people and he loved going and playing Texas Hold em with special friends Chops and Joanne. Fred loved talking and reminiscing of old times, many stories passed and shared over the years.
He enjoyed his children and great grand children. He was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He had a special place in his heart for Susan, Sharilyn, Shelly, Steve, Stewart, Shane and Sheela, the children of his late sister Doris.
Fred is survived by wife Nancy, his son Robert, Daughters Krissy (Harold), Tina (Terry), Karilynn (Tyronne).
Lovingly remembered and adored by his grand children, Samatha (Joel), Mitch (Amanda), Taylor (Cody), Jordan (Francis). His Great Grandchildren, Copper, Owen, Sutton, Jasper, Kali, Peyton.
Survived by his brothers and sisters, Larry (Diane), Bill (Caroline), Alfred (Sheila), Joyce Jensen, Elaine Beyak (Don), Sisters-in-law Dorthy Gate, Mert Gate, and Donna Gate and many other family members.
Predeceased by his parents Mable and Cecil Gate, Father and Mother in-law Helen and Andrew McQuaker. Sisters Ann Carswell (Joe), Dorris McNally (Norman), Brothers Ronnie, Chuck, Keith, and Garry. Brothers in-law Dell Jensen, Pat Bartel, Ben Dobransky and special friend Gordon Olson.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at the Rainy River Hospital for the great care that Fred has received over the last six months. He had nothing but good to say of everyone. We also thank the Doctors and staff at the Thunder bay Regional Hospital for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers and donations please give your Dad or Grandpa a big hug. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. Forever missed and never forgotten and always loved. GO LEAFS, GO!
