Florence’s Obituary
Florence was born on November 21, 1932 to Gustav and Lilly Rode in Bigger, Saskatchewan. Other members of her family were Evelyn, Ralph, Bernice, Gloria and Ron. Florence was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings except Ron. Florence married Lawrence Smithson on June 29, 1963 in Camrose, Alberta. They lived and farmed in the Camrose area until June 1968. They bought a farm in Cleardale area of Alberta where they moved with their two children, Grant and Rhonda. They continued to farm there until 2001 when the sold the farm and moved to Fairview, Alberta.
While living in the Cleardale area, Florence was active in the Worsley Baptist Church. She was a willing helper with the Sunday school, Vacation Bible school and the ladies group. She continued with helping in these areas when they moved to Fairview, willingly giving a hand where ever she was needed. One of Florence’s favourite projects was the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoe boxes. One year she packed sixty boxes to give to unfortunate children in various countries.
Florence was predeceased by her son Grant.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Lawrence, daughter Rhonda in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, grandsons Paris and Alex in Mexico City, three sister in law’s and four brother in law’s, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
A graveside service for Florence will be held on October 26, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Cleardale Cemetery.
Memorial donations in memory of Florence can be given to Samaritan’s Purse, The Gideon’s or a charity of your choice.
