TOMLINSON, EVELYN MARY
(previously WILLIAMSON, nee HOWDEN)
December 25,1929 to July 11, 2021
Peacefully in her sleep, at Hospice Huronia-Tomkins House in Penetanguishene, Ontario. Evelyn was born on Christmas Day 1929 to Harold and Olive Howden, in Toronto.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jimmy, her husband Jack and her son, James.
Evelyn leaves to mourn her passing, her daughters, Sally (Stephen) and Wendy (David), as well as seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Evelyn and Jack had a passion for travel and had visited all continents except Antarctica. In their later years, cruising was a favoured way to see the world. As well as seeing foreign places through travel, Jack’s work took them to live in both Hinsdale, a suburb of Chicago, and in Natchez, Mississippi.
Mom was a very gregarious person and she maintained the friendships she formed in school, in her daily life and her travels. She was a prodigious letter writer and her friends were as well.
Mom was very active, and was still driving up until Christmas this past year when a series of unfortunate falls ultimately confined her to a wheel chair. Writing was a chore due to a fractured humerus, but that didn’t stop her from keeping in touch with people by phone. She cherished her friends.
We would like to thank the caregivers at Tomkins House for their tender and kind care while mom was there. It truly made her last days very comfortable and stress free. We would also like to thank Dr. Amanda Murdock for her care and understanding in mom’s circumstances.
Funeral arrangements will be provided by Fawcett Funeral Home in Collingwood with a graveside service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to either The Canadian Red Cross, a particularly important cause for our mother, or to Hospice Huronia-Tomkins House, to help further the caring and loving work that is carried out there.
