Evelyn Augusta Nesbitt (nee Bunker)
November 28, 1930 – December 29, 2020
Nesbitt (Bunker), Evelyn Augusta – 90, Little River, Digby Neck, NS
It is with great sadness the family of Evelyn Nesbitt announce her peaceful passing on December 29, 2020; surrounded by her loving family at home.
Evelyn, daughter of the late Darrell and Kathline Bunker (Stanton), was predeceased by brothers, Larry, Murray, Clifford and Darrell; and sister Joan. She is survived by her sisters Hazel and Debra (Billy).
Evelyn lived a busy and fulfilling life, making life-long friendships in the various fishing communities where they lived over the years. Many have stayed in touch and on her recent 90th birthday in November she received dozens of phone calls from friends and family from across Canada.
Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress and was in demand for her skills with alterations and custom orders from several upscale clothing stores. She could tackle anything from a bridal gown & veil, to hemming pants or repairing motorcycle leathers.
Evelyn also enjoyed their life on the farm in Little River where she was as comfortable on the tractor mowing hay, as she was delivering newborn calves in the barn. Other chores she loved were cutting the winter wood with her power saw, working the vegetable and strawberry gardens with her husband Arnold and in her younger years, hunting rabbits and deer.
Throughout her full life, perhaps Evelyn’s strongest trait was her compassion for others. She was always concerned for her family and neighbours; often ensuring food was on the table for those in need, presents under the tree for those who were on hard times and raising foster children to give them a better life.
Evelyn was never idle. There was always something cooking on the stove, fresh bread baking in the oven, jams and pickles being preserved, clothes being sewed and a quilt in the frame being quilted… and often all at once. Her memory was excellent and she loved to talk about anything and everything. She was an avid reader, preferring Farley Mowatt, did the Chronicle Herald crossword daily and often had a puzzle going on the table.
She was a lover of music, especially Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, and her favourite Johnny Cash was playing as she passed, with her loving family at her side.
Evelyn is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Harold (Wendy), of Lower Five Islands; her daughters, Ginger (Allan) of Lower Argyle and Sundae (Gordon) of Chebogue; her grandchildren, Matthew, Mark (Jill), Lynn (Eric), Luke, Laura and Jonathan (Merissa); her great-grandchildren, James, Ainslee, Clare and Meredith; extended children, Dean, Diane and Pam Langdale.
During her later life, Evelyn lived with her daughters in the Yarmouth area. Special thanks to the VON, Home Care and Continuing Care nurses for their care over the past months and to the Paramedics for their compassion and attention during her last hours.
Evelyn will be laid to rest in the family plot in Little River, next to her loving husband Arnold in the late spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VON or any charity of your choice.
