Listen
It is with broken hearts that the family of Eva (Caldwell) Brown of Bathurst, NB, beloved wife of the late Preston Brown, announce her death which occurred peacefully at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John, NB on June 7, 2021.
Born in Arthurette, NB, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lillie (Boone) Caldwell.
After graduation from Andover High School, she taught school in a one-room schoolhouse prior to enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division where she served in Halifax and Newfoundland during WWII. After her discharge, she worked for Sears in Perth-Andover. She was subsequently transferred to Bathurst, where she met her husband. She then took on the role of housewife and mother, at which she excelled.
She was a long-time member of St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Bathurst, where she taught Sunday School and participated in the WMS, amongst many other activities. Church and family were the most important things to her, both her own children, and a multitude of nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
She is survived by her children, twin sons Lloyd (Kathy) and Lorne, daughter Rebecca and grandchildren Colin and Sarah. She is also survived by her beloved brother, Benjamin Caldwell of Halifax, NS.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Wendell, Lawrence and Sinclair Caldwell, and sisters Blanche Furge, Jane Jamer and Edythe Penny.
A private graveside service will be held at this time in Bathurst, with a memorial service to occur at a later date.
Donations in memory of Eva may be made to St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Gideon Bibles International, Sleeping Children Around the World, or another charity of your choice.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Ridgewood Veterans Wing for their excellent care of our Mom over the past six years. We especially appreciate your support to our family over the last few days. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her” Proverbs 31:28
