Obituary
Esther Marta Hauschildt, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2021 at the age of 94.
Esther was born in Radevormwald, Germany on January 5, 1927 to Paul Biesenbach and Martha (Neureuter) Biesenbach. She grew up in a very close knit family, with sister Ruth, twin sisters Hannah and Frieda, and a brother Paul.
Esther met Max Hauschildt in the early 50’s and they spent many happy years travelling throughout Germany on Max’s DKW motorcycle. They were married in August 1956, after deciding it was time to settle down and raise a family. They were happily married for 54 years until Max’s passing.
Esther and Max moved to Canada because another war seemed imminent after the construction of the Berlin Wall in August 1961. Esther’s sisters, Hannah and Ruth, were already living in Canada, so it was only natural that the rest of the family followed. In 1962 Esther, Max, their two children, Jürgen and Bettina, Esther’s sister Frieda, and Esther’s parents left Germany for their new home.
The early years in Canada were marked with struggles but also happiness with the addition of another child, Dave. Esther worked hard alongside Max to provide for their family. In time they were able to enjoy traveling again, children in tow, but in a much larger country.
Esther was independent, strong willed, creative, witty, and intelligent. She loved to cook, sew, read, and beat Max at a rousing game of Rummikub. She taught her children to work hard, be proud of who they are, and most of all the importance of family. There was always music and laughter in her home, as well as an open door to family and friends.
Esther is survived by her children, Jürgen (Renée), Bettina (Robert Walser), and Dave (Dianne). Esther is survived by her grandchildren Adam Walser (Kerri Norman), Matthew Walser (Patricia Gervais), Sarah Walser (Jeremy Schofield), and Skye-Lee Hauschildt; and her great grandchildren Linnéa Walser, Zachary, Linus, and Dashiell Walser, Amaya and Everlie Hauschildt, and Ivan Schofield. Esther is also survived by her brothers-in-law Peter Heinrichs and Adolf Hauschildt, sister-in-law Renate Hauschildt, as well as nieces and nephews and their families.
Esther was predeceased by her husband Max (2010), her parents Paul (1965) and Martha (1983), her sisters, Frieda Heinrichs (2007), Ruth Grübe (2009), and Hanna Schaarschmidt (2013), and her brother Paul (1941).
Esther’s family would like to thank the caring staff at Edith Cavell Care Home (especially Lillian, Lovely, Lynn, Margret and Reina) for treating mom with such respect and kindness. Also, thank you to Dr. Peter G. Greidanus and Dr. Samuel Dewalle for their diligent and compassionate care.
Cremation entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels.
A Private family inurnment will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery.
