We, the family of Elsie Lorraine Duffy, a resident of Mira Road, regret to announce her passing on Saturday, December 18, 2021.
Born August 18, 1947, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Allan and Dorothy (Napman) Matheson.
Elsie was a long-serving member of the Sydney Lioness Club, having served as president. In her early years, she was employed with Zellers Department Store. However, her main purpose was to make sure that her family was well-taken care of and loved. This was a job at which she excelled.
The world was a better place with her in it and we will carry her in our hearts forever. When you think of Elsie, remember her with a smile, as she sure loved a good joke.
Elsie is survived by her husband, Sheldon; son, Sheldon (Beth), Ft. McMurray and their children, Sarah and Hannah; daughter, Tanya, Sydney; sister, Donna (Joseph) MacDougall, Sydney River; sister-in-law, Webetta Duffy, Sydney; nephews, Douglas and Darren MacDougall; nieces, Heather Campbell and Larissa Duffy; and close friends, Dolly McDonald, Pat Muller and Florence Powell, all of Sydney.
Besides her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Orison Duffy and nephew, Trevor Duffy.
The family would like to thank the EHS staff and the ER doctors and nurses for their care and compassion.
A funeral service for family only will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, December 23 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. The service can viewed on FaceBook Live by visiting the Sydney Memorial Chapel FaceBook page.
Memorials may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Lung Association.
