Elaine Dorothy Giese
August 14, 1952 – July 11, 2021
Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and aunt, Elaine Giese of Prince George, passed away on July 11, 2021.
Elaine is dearly missed by her loving spouse of 50 years, Gilbert Dupont. She lives on in the hearts and memories of her and Gilbert’s four children: Sarah (Bruce), Amber, Andrew (Nikki), and Bruce (Raquel). She was a mother to twins (Amber and Andrew) and grandmother to Hailey Ann and McKenna Elaine (of Bruce and Raquel).
Elaine is survived by siblings Karen (Roger), Lloyd, Brian (Shelley), and Myrna (Lou), as well as her mother, Dorothy, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She is pre-deceased by brothers Bruce and Calvin, father Everett, nephew Evan, and niece Brittany.
Her early childhood years at EM&K Sawmill’s « bush camp » and at Tay School were some of her favourite memories. She attended Kelly Road School and was a graduate of the Prince George Secondary School (Class of 1970). Elaine’s first job was as a telephone operator with BC Tel and she later had a job with Lakeland Mills before having children.
As a mother, Elaine was devoted to her children. Whether it was waking up at 6am to make cookies for the kids’ lunches, or foregoing a Coke or new shoes herself so her kids could have them, Elaine always put herself last until the kids were well on their ways in their adult lives. They will miss the long phone conversations with Mom, who could always be counted on to pick up the phone late at night or first thing in the morning when she was needed.
Elaine will also be remembered by the many children she babysat while her own children were growing up. These were happy, busy, chaotic, and wonderful times of Disney movies, crafts, 4-H Club, Air Bands, colouring books, Play Doh, and playing outside on the farm in Beaverly.
Gilbert and Sarah wish to thank Dr. Roberts, Dr. Powell, Dr. Hunter and the wonderful nurses of the BC Cancer Agency (especially Corinna) for their tremendous support and care of Elaine. They also wish to thank Dr. Anakwe, the ER doctors and nurses, Dr. Patel, Dr. Sainchuk, and the caring and compassionate nurses in the Family Medicine Unit Pod C. A special thank you to Elaine’s niece, Amy Giese, for her nursing expertise and loving care for her aunt in her final weeks while she was in hospital.
