It is with sadness, yet a great hope that the family of the late Effie Rebecca Rideout (nee Roberts), age 82, of Triton, NL announces her Promotion to Glory, from the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale, on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
Effie was born in Triton to Pleman and Dorothy Roberts on February 8, 1939. She was the third child born in the family of six brothers and four sisters; Effie grew up and helped to raise her younger siblings. Effie met Job Rideout when she was 15 and it wasn’t long before she knew he was her soul mate. They married on November 8, 1955 and they welcomed their first son the following year. Together they had two sons and four daughters and a stepson. Effie loved to cook, she fed thousands of people over the years from the ships that would dock at the government wharf, they were always welcomed and her door was always open.
Effie loved her family dearly and all of her time went into raising her children. When Job passed away in 1987 Effie moved to Ontario for a short time, it wasn’t long before she moved back to her home town. Effie was a Salvation Army soldier for many years and loved her Church and her Church family; she rarely missed a morning or evening service. Effie had a love for music, she loved it when the VFC’s would sing and knew every word to every hymn. She was a member of the Salvation Army Home League in Triton and helped out in any way she could. Effie was a Volunteer Ambulance Attendant for many years, she also worked at The Salvation Army Silver Birches Camp, and she also worked as a home care worker in the later years.
Effie loved to drive, it was not uncommon for her to get in her car (with Myles in tow in his younger years), pick up aunt Naomi and her mother Dorothy and head out of town for the day or for a weekend away to visit family and friends in other communities across the Island. All three loved to go « crusin » together and they were rarely seen apart for many years, she loved meeting new people and hearing their stories.
Effie’s family was the most important thing to her and when grandchildren came into the world she doted on every one of them. Her children and grandchildren loved going to her house for a meal and a visit, many hours were spent around the table reminiscing and the house was always filled with love laughter and dancing. Effie’s family will miss her dearly, in recent years although her memory may have failed her laughter, love and sense of humour never changed. You will be missed Mom and we will see you again one day on the other side. « Well done, thy good and faithful servant. »
She is predeceased by her husband Job Rideout; son Tony Rideout; daughters Ronnie-DeLane Rideout, Molly Burton; great-granddaughter Mercedes Rideout-Colbourne; parents Pleman and Dorothy Roberts; brother Ralph Roberts; sister Maxine Roberts; sisters-in-law Shirley Roberts, Lillian Roberts.
Effie left indelible memories for her family and friends to cherish forever. Effie leaves to mourn her, daughters Menetta Croucher (Herman Rideout), Lisa (Ricky) Fudge; sons Stedman (Leila) Rideout, Myles Rideout; grandchildren Roni-Delane Rideout (Terence Ward), Robby Rideout (Vicky Prince), Kiaina Lacombe, Benita (Philip) Rice, Jennifer Croucher (Branden Sallie), Debbie Burton (Corey Flynn), Morgan Fudge, Katie Rideout; great-grandchildren Noah Alcock, Myah Alcock, Jonah Ward, Taylor Rice, Justin Burton, Codie Burton, Mackenzie Burton; sisters Joan (Terry) Whalen, Dianne (Reg) Rice; brothers Melvin Roberts, Glen (Vida) Roberts, Bram (Bessie) Roberts, Gilbert (Marie) Roberts, Gary (Pearl) Roberts, nieces and nephews, as well as other family members and friends.
