Edmund George Baker
May 11, 1935 – June 1, 2021
Edmund George Baker was born on May 11, 1935 in Buchans, NL. He is preceded by his parents Isaiah and Blanche Baker. His wife Elma (Caines) preceded him on January 23, 2020. Ed came from a family of five. His siblings: Guy, deceased (Penny), Valmore (Myrt), Marilyn (Clarence), and Merrill (Annette).
Ed moved to Clarenville and after finishing school, joined the Royal Canadian Air Forces. While visiting Buchans one day, he saw Elma. He remembers a beautiful girl in a white t-shirt and red shorts with long lovely legs. They were introduced by Elma’s sister Louise. They fell in love and were married in 1960.
They had three children: Tia (Matthew), Tracy (Denise), and Tara (Allan). Nine grandchildren: Brian (Olivia), Amanda (Kody), Caitlin (Kasey), Wendy (Paul), Amber, Jacob (Dave), Emily (Jon), Travis (Josh), and Cole (Leigh). Five great-grandchildren: Abigail, Mylah, Emma, Luna, Scarlet, plus one more on the way (Wendy). Poppa loved each and every one. He often gave cookies and ice cream to them no matter what their age.
Dad loved Aunt Doris, who was very special to him. She always made him homemade fruit cakes, being sure there was no butter, as dad was allergic to it.
Dad enjoyed politics and was always eager to help out with the elections when asked. He could always be found at the front door of the church when there was a funeral in Buchans. He always wanted to be of service and help out.
Dad also loved to read, fish, pick any berry, chop wood for winter, and take drives with his dog, Toby to get his water from the spring. Toby loved to go on the quad with dad and what a fine sight they made. If there is a brook in heaven he is surely casting his line into the water.
The family thanks everyone for their support and friendship. A special thank you to Nadine and Karen who took such good care of our father. We always knew that he was well cared for and loved – Thank you! Thank you as well to the staff at A.M. Guy Memorial for their excellent care of our dad. They made sure dad always got his ice cream sandwiches.
Donations may be made to the Salvation Army Citadel in Buchans, NL. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ryan Peddle of Central Funeral Homes.
