Obituary of Dwain McGillvray
Surrounded by his hockey family on Saturday Nov 20th, 2021, Dwain was in the place he loved most, the local hockey rink. He was legendary with the hockey boys who all knew him as Gramps and D-dog. He lived and loved large for all 77 years of his life. He lit up every room he walked into and made a lasting impression on all those who met him. He embraced friends like they were family and truly believed there was good in everyone. He was fiercely loving and loyal to all who were blessed to know him.
To be reunited with his late wife, his sweetheart of 51 years, Colleen McGillvray (Kelly), most supportive father to Cheryl McGillvray and Brenda McGillvray, most proud grandfather to Brittany McGillvray, Ashley Todorowski, Claire Logue and Grady Logue, and most loving great-grandfather to Kearra McEllistrum and Oliver Riddell. He was a best friend to his sister-in law Cheryl Kelly, Wayne (Pat) Kelly. He was also predeceased by his brothers Keith (Bobbi), Merl (Joan), Glen (Joan) and Jim (Leslie) McGillvray.
Nothing made his eyes light up more than helping others. He was a giving soul of his time, his heart and generous charitable donations. This extended to his choice to bequeath his body to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa for education and research.
Deep and heartfelt thanks go out to the Carleton Place Canadians team, staff and parents who rallied to help him and rendered medical assistance and the handing over of his care to Dwain’s friend and doctor, Dr. Steve Walker and special friend to nurse Bev MacNeil.
Donations to the Stittsville Food Bank , would make him smile.
