Dr. Murray Robert Chantler, age 83, of Guelph ,Ontario, succumbed to the ravages of Parkinson’s disease on the afternoon of June 14, 2021. Murray was born in Toronto, to Dr. Marshall Alan Chantler and Hazel Norine Chantler (nee Partridge). After graduating with a degree in dentistry from University of Toronto in 1962, he set up his dental practice in Etobicoke where he practiced his entire career. Murray was well respected in the Greater Toronto Area dental community and worked tirelessly to improve the practice of dentistry over his many years of successful practice. He was a contributor for over 30 years to the Southam Publication of Oral Health, a past president of the Toronto Crown and Bridge society, a past president of the West Toronto Dental Society and a champion for the rights of all dentists afflicted by any career ending diagnosis. Murray was an avid sportsman who enjoyed many sports with golfing, squash and tennis being particular favourites. He was a licenced small aircraft pilot and scuba diver. His main source of joy was his family with whom he travelled all over Canada and into the United States. Expanding his joy and love of family were his beloved grandchildren with whom he could be found doing various special events and activities.
Survived by his wife of 60 years, Brenda May Chantler, nee Hobbs, and daughters, Cheryl MacMillan (John) and Laurel Berry (Steve), and grandchildren Ryan (Melanie), Meaghan, Brendan, Adam, and Kirsten. His presence will also be sorely missed by all who knew him.
