Peacefully surrounded by the love of his family, at the Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound on Thursday, October 14, 2021. Douglas Andrew Mahar, of Owen Sound, at the age of 73 years. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Mary Mahar (nee Heipel) for 50 years. Loving father of Melissa and Brian. Proud grandfather of Josh, Erick (Kaylin), Kaiden and Savannah. Dear brother of Brian Nelson Mahar and brother-in-law of Butch, Shirley, Donnie, Karen (Jack) and Peggy (Ted). Cherished son of Georgina Mahar Carling and son-in-law of Pat Heipel and the late Howard Heipel. Doug will be missed by many nieces, nephews family and friends.
A special “thank you” to the doctors and staff of 6-1 at the G.B.H.S., Chapman House and Brian E. Wood Funeral Home. Friends may call at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A private funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, October 19th, 2021 with Barrie Jack officiating. Although it is private, friends are welcome to view the service via livestream on the funeral home website (woodfuneralhome.ca), at 2:00 p.m.
Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a Memorial Service at the funeral home on Monday evening at 6:45 p.m.
