Douglas O’Leary
August 11, 1960 – June 25, 2021
Passed away peacefully at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Friday, June 25, 2021. Douglas Joseph O’Leary, in his 61st year was a well known St. John’s Taxi Driver for over 40 years, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of numerous St. John’s sporting teams over the years. Predeceased by his ever loving grandmother, Alice O’Leary; grandmother, Gertrude Colford and grandfather, Martin Colford. Also his father, Michael Francis O’Leary – himself a local St. John’s Taxi Driver; together with a large number of aunts and uncles. Leaving to mourn, his mother, Gertrude O’Leary; brothers, Sean (Juanita), Paul (Judy) and Michael (Debbie); sisters, Sheilagh Dale (Gary), Patricia Campbell, Mary (Ed) and Brenda (John); uncle Bob Colford; as well as special canine buddy, Max. Doug was a special uncle to 15 nieces and nephews and 21 great-nieces and nephews. A very special thank you for all the exceptional care Doug received from the nursing staff on 7 East St. Clare’s who were always there for him 24/7. They laughed with him and cried with his family when Doug was no longer there. Thanks to the medical specialists, Dr. Genge and Dr. Kanagasabai and the medical residents, including Dr. Fleming whose medical expertise guided us through this difficult time. To the environment and dietary services who cheered Doug up everyday; when asked by the environmental and dietary services how he was doing, Doug would respond with the words “peachy just peachy”. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Cremation has taken place. Visitation on Monday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will take place at 9:30 am on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from Mary Queen of Peace Church. Inurnment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Douglas’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
