1948 ~ Doug Miller ~ 2021
It is with great sadness the family of Doug Miller share the news of his passing on March 27, 2021, at the age of 72 at the Good Samaritan Society Home. Doug was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan on May 18, 1948, to Clarence and Lenora Miller. On August 30, 1969, Doug married the love of his life, our mother Mickey (Moore) Miller. In their 51 years of marriage, they had two sons, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Doug was so proud of their first baby boy they named him Douglas Wayne Miller Jr. although they started calling him Wayne at a very young age. Their second child was another bouncing baby boy named, Troy Robert Miller. Doug will be lovingly missed by his wife, Mickey Miller; along with sons; Wayne (Misty) and Troy (Stephanie); grandchildren, Tia (Dustyn), Mike (Megan), Aiden and Evan; great-grandchildren Shanae, Zayn, Deklan, and Evelina. Doug was predeceased by his father Clarence; mother, Lenora; brother, Ardel (Mavis); sister, Bea (Bob); Uncle Rick; nephew, Kim; niece, Norma; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Art and Dorothy Moore; brothers-in-law, Don, Dwight, Charlie and Harry; and sister-in-law, Norine; nieces, Megan and Makaja; and nephew, Dwayne. Doug always put family first and enjoyed camping, travelling, singing, golfing, curling, baseball, hockey, boating and so much more. At a young age, Doug became a lifeguard in Minnedosa. He had to swim across the lake and back to achieve this where he continued to lifeguard for three seasons. He was also a member of the school board (when the boys were in elementary school), a leader in the 4-H club, a leader of the United Church Camp (in Elkwater), President of the western Co-op union, a member of the Moose, and a member of the Elks, the president of the Brooks Legion, and the president of the Oil Men’s Club (in Stettler). In short, whatever Doug put his mind to he excelled at!! Doug touched many lives and those that got to know him came to respect him and his outgoing sense of humour, as well as his unconditional love and commitment towards his family and friends. The family is grateful for the amazing care that was given to him at the Good Samaritan Society- South Ridge Village and a special thank you goes out to all the staff there. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the Lupus Society of Alberta, 900 – 105 12th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB . There will be an online service on April 1, 2021, at 1:00 pm.
Love Lives On
Those we love remain with us
for love itself lives on
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one’s gone.
Those we love can never
Be more than a thought apart,
For as long as there is a memory
They’ll live on in the heart.
