Obituary of Dorlean Taygahs Carmen
Dorlean Taygahs Carmen (nee: Boyetchko)
With broken hearts and falling tears, we announce the peaceful passing of Dorlean on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the age of 89 years.
Her last journey of life was spent as a resident of the Diocese of Qu’Appelle House in Regina.
Dorlean was born on December 1, 1931 in Moose Bay, Manitoba in a family of seven sisters – Annie, Helen, Nellie, Lillian, Jennie, Polly and Katie and seven brothers – Mike, Joe, Harry, Roy, Nick, Martin, and Philip.
She took an interest in music at a very young age. Dorlean loved playing the guitar, violin and the mandolin which she enjoyed throughout her entire lifetime. She loved spending time on her sewing machine, not only for herself, but for family needs and friends’ requests for all sorts of mending. Dorlean also enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and crafts.
Dorlean was very sports minded. She played ladies fastball as a pitcher, ice curled in a league and bowling most of her active life. She was an avid Rider and Blue Jays fan and also enjoyed watching curling and hockey games on TV.
Whenever there was a family gathering or just a visit with Dorlean, there was always time for playing cards and crib was her game, usually having the upper hand.
Dorlean was full of joy when in contact with her sisters and brothers, travelling great distances to visit. She also knew how important it was to stay connected with family and friends in a letter, greeting card or a phone call.
She was a strong believer in her faith and her relationship with God. Dorlean assisted communion in the Catholic service, took part in music ministry at the Holy Child Parish and loved singing in the choir.
Dorlean supported the Saskatchewan Rett Syndrome Association, served on the Board of Coop Housing and volunteered her time at Care Homes. From the time she left school she was a dedicated employee in the work force until late retirement.
Grandma had a loving commitment to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The joy of her life was her special needs granddaughter Jaime, whom she cared for and treasured the time spent together.
Dorlean had a passion for her camera and never went anywhere without it.
She was extremely proud of her five brothers who served in the Canadian Armed Forces and all survived from duty.
Dorlean leaves to cherish her memories her sons Neall (Delene), Norton (Marlys); daughter Angel Dionne; grandchildren Jaime, Lisa (Jaeson), Jason (Tasha); great-grandchildren Haley and Olivia; sisters Jennie and Lillian; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her former husband Lance.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorlean’s memory to the Saskatchewan Rett Syndrome Association, 15 Deborah Crescent, Saskatoon, SK S7J 2W9.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a Private Service will be held at Holy Child R.C. Parish.
