It is with profound sadness that the
family of Doris Sybil Rhindress, age 97,
of Amherst, announce her passing on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at the
East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, NS.
Born in Portland, Oregon, she was the
daughter of the late Harold and Ethel (Hudson) Kemp.
Doe moved from Portland Oregon to Epsom
England with her mom and sister and worked in the Chevers Jam
factory. She met Bobby Dazzler, as her mom liked to call
him, and became his war bride. She traveled from England to
Amherst to the open arms of her new in-laws, Alex and Caroline
Rhindress and new sister in laws Gladys and Bernice and brother in law
Ben.
Doris worked as a clerk at the Albion
convenience store in Amherst for 7 years prior to her retirement in
1975. She was an avid seamstress and made many of the tap dancing and
skating costumes for her own children, as well as many other
children. She was renowned for her doll making and her dolls
were sold worldwide. She enjoyed clogging. She was
a member of the First Baptist Church, the Nova Scotia British War
Brides Association, the Brookdale Hog Growers Association, the Amherst
Golden Years Society and the Wednesday Afternoon Ladies Bowling
League.
She was a great mother, wonderful
grandmother and great grandmother and best friend to many. A
great passion for her family and friends was shown by her countenance
and smile on her face. The more people around her the larger
the smile and the comment was always « How lucky am I to have all
my loved ones around me ».
Music was her life, if there was music
to be heard she was there. She played the guitar and mouth
organ and along with her son Larry, they entertained to anyone or
everyone.
Doe’s vibrant personality and love of
life was obvious to everyone. When you saw Doe interact with Children
and animals you got a view through the window to her soul;
what a beautiful view that was.
Doe will be sadly missed by daughters,
Sandy (John) Nield, Pugwash, NS and Donna (Mike Breau) Allen, Point de
Bute, NB; son Larry (Wendy), Wittenburg, NS; grandaughters Kim
(Keith), Sue (Steve), Lori (Digger), Laura (Wayne) and Carly and 10
great grandchildren, Brayley, Kierden, Colton, Matthew, Johnny, Jack,
Luke, Maddy, Charlie and Nick.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased
by her husband Bob, great granddaughter Alexandra; sister Daphne;
sister in laws Gladys, Bernice and Eleanor, brother in laws, Ernie and
Ken.
