Donald Morrison 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Don Morrison on Tuesday, February 16th, 2021. He passed away surrounded by his family in the home he loved and helped build.
To many, Don was a teacher. He taught at Peacock Collegiate for 30 years where he was a mentor to countless students and many of his colleagues. He loved to help people grow. One of our great pleasures was watching former students approach him to say ‘thank you’. It happened a lot.
The only thing Don loved more than teaching was his family. He met his wife, Barb, at Peacock. They were married for 35 years and you will not find anyone more committed to a man than she was. She is the rock that he leaned on. Don had two sons, Kirk and Kent, whom he fiercely supported. If you knew him, you knew us, because he made sure you did. We are the men we are today because of his unwavering support.
In recent years Don spread his love to his daughter-in-law Katie, who consistently impressed him with her strength and ambition. We are so happy that he was able to meet his new grandson, Leo, who will grow up knowing how special his grandpa was.
After retirement, Ross Wells Park became Don’s oasis. He volunteered there every summer, cutting grass and maintaining the field. He spent many hours working alone in the sunshine but would often sneak back early in the evenings when the stands were full. It was the place he looked forward to going every day and it will always be special to our family.
Don’s roots are on the farm near Archydal, SK with his parents Gerry and Norma. He is survived by his siblings Pat (Donna), Mauraine, Bob (Tammy), and Gail (Barry), as well as his brother-in-law Basil (Tara) and sister-in-law Betty-Lou. He has many beloved nieces and nephews who all, at some point, admitted he is their favourite uncle.
We are grateful for Dr. Volker Rininsland and the caring doctors and nurses at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital. The kindness and competence of the home care nurses will not be forgotten.
Among his final wishes, Don asked that we spread kindness in the community and cherish our friendships. That is what we intend to do. We encourage you to do the same.
A Private Family Service will be held to honour Don. We invite family and friends to join us for a livestream of the Memorial Service on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Please visit www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/ to attend.
There is a scholarship in Don’s name at Peacock Collegiate. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation by e-transfer to DonMorrisonScholarship@gmail.com
